Top 50 Indies operator Alfred Jones has confirmed that none of its forecourts are involved in the sell-off of part of its estate to the Tesco-owned c-store group One Stop Stores.
One Stop has agreed a deal to acquire 33 of Warrington-based Alfred Jones 70 c-store sites, subject to regulatory approval, which is expected to be determined later in the year.
An Alfred Jones spokeswoman told Forecourt Trader: “As part of a review of our retail stores we found some that no longer match our future aspirations for the group. Selling those stores as a bundle will help to safeguard the jobs of the staff employed in them.”
Alfred Jones is ranked 14th in the Top 50 and now has 17 forecourts having disposed of one since the Top 50 was compiled earlier this year.
The purchase will bring One Stop’s total number of stores to 682 across England and Wales, and grow its employee base to almost 10,000.
