A knifeman has rampaged across a forecourt in Manchester attacking vehicles and threatening customers.
The attack occurred at 8.45pm on Friday at the Texaco petrol station in Oldham Road, Failsworth, and police have issued CCTV footage and an efit of the attacker.
Police said a man threatened several customers on the forecourt with a large knife and tried to get into a number of cars.
Nothing was stolen during the incident, but the man also caused damage to cars parked at the petrol station, including smashing the windscreen of a taxi.
The man then left the forecourt and made his way towards the nearby canal.
Police officers arrived a short time later and an extensive search of the area was carried out, but the offender could not be found.
The man is white and described as 6ft tall and of average build. He was wearing denim jeans and boots with a white trim. He wore a brown or black bubble jacket over a hoody top, which had the hood pulled up. The jacket had a large Union Jack motif on the front.
Detective constable Kate Carnally from Oldham CID said: “Thankfully no-one was injured during this incident, but staff and customers were understandably left terrified after a man brandishing a knife threatened a number of people there and damaged several cars.
“The man’s intentions as he carried out these threats are still unclear at this time, but we continue to make extensive efforts to identify and trace the man responsible.
“If you recognise this man in the hooded top or if you have information as to his whereabouts now, please get in touch with police.”
