Thousands of people have joined a tribute page on Facebook in memory of a popular petrol station worker who collapsed and died at work on New Year’s Day.
Graham Topp, 40, had worked for many years at the Total filling station on Semington Road, Melksham, in Wiltshire, and was well known by customers. After he collapsed he was treated by the Ambulance Service but was declared dead at the scene.
A memorial page on Facebook has been signed by more than 2,500 people, with some calling for him to be nominated for Melksham’s ‘person of the year’ civic award. Many said he was always a ‘friendly face’ at the filling station
Last week, police issued an appeal to track down a couple who CCTV cameras filmed in the garage at the time Topp collapsed, at around 6am.
They released images of the couple, and detective inspector Mark Power, senior investigating officer, said: “We are trying to piece together exactly what happened in the last moments of Graham Topp’s life and we believe that these two people can assist with this. Although they witnessed the collapse they didn’t remain at the scene to speak to police and we would like to speak to them as witnesses.
“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and this is a normal part of the process when we prepare a file for the coroner in readiness for the inquest into this sudden death.”
This week the police said the couple had come forward and detective constable Melanie Carosi, investigating officer, said: “We would like to thank the media for their assistance and to all of the members of the public who phoned us with information.
“We have been contacted by the couple and they are assisting us with our enquiries into the sudden death of Graham Topp.”
