Fuel for debate

Robert Halfon MP is to lead a cross-party Parliamentary debate on fuel duty this month. Supported by 65 MPs from all three main political parties, Halfon will press for an Office of Fair Trading enquiry into the oil market, as well as no further tax on fuel. Brian Madderson, chairman of the PRA, said: "We are meeting Robert Halfon and his researcher in early September and we hope to get a date for the cross-party debate then."

Support for fair energy

MPs from all major parties have rallied together to call on the government to take action and stop unfair practices by energy companies. A dozen MPs have already spoken out in favour of the ACS’ Switch to Fair Energy campaign. The latest MP to add her support, Liberal Democrat MP Lorely Burt, said: "Energy companies continue to take advantage of small businesses at a time when energy costs are spiralling and competition in the market is failing to work effectively. This is harming the ability of small businesses to grow, invest and create jobs."

Moving for growth

Top 50 Indie Motor Fuel Group (MFG) has moved its head office from Harrow to Clock House Court on London Road in St Albans.

Jeremy Clarke, MFG’s managing director, said: "Our expansion plans for the company necessitated that we move our head office operations to a location and facility that will meet our ambitious plans for the future."

Embarassing demands

A survey of 1,506 UK 18-21 year-olds by customer Intelligence firm Market Force Information has found that 20% feel embarrassed and intimidated when asked for ID while buying age-restricted products or visiting age-restricted locations.
