A drunk teenager who had been refused alcohol and tobacco at a Jet petrol station in Surrey and went on to steal cigarettes has been jailed for six months.

According to www.getsurrey.co.uk, the cashier refused to serve 19-year-old Benjamin Edgecock because he appeared to be drunk. But Edgecock barged him out of the way and helped himself to 10 packets of cigarettes. Luckily the cashier knew the lad lived just around the corner in Maybury.

Edgecock snatched the cigarettes, worth £70, on August 3 this year while under a suspended sentence for assault and damaging property at his mother’s home.

Police were called and recognised the man immediately from CCTV footage. Edgecock was then arrested but was so drunk he did not remember what had happened.
