A Welsh fuel thief has had his ban from entering every petrol station forecourt in the UK lifted – and has instead been put under curfew, is being made to do community service and has been disqualified from driving for a year.
According to the North Wales Daily Post, cash-strapped 21-year-old Liam Evans filled his car with more than £300-worth of petrol at garages in Holyhead, Llangefni and Tregele over a two-week period – and each time drove away without paying.
Last month he pleaded guilty to five charges of making off without paying. He also admitted two charges of driving without insurance and driving a vehicle that was not in accordance with his licence.
He was then barred from entering any forecourt in the UK until he returned to court.
This week Evans was handed a three-month curfew to remain at home between 7pm and 7am. He will also have to carry out unpaid community work and attend a ‘thinking skills’ programme.
Chair of magistrates Ruth Davies, at Holyhead Magistrates Court, said: “We are dealing with very serious offences. You are on the brink of custody, this is the very last chance – take this last chance.”
Evans will have to compensate the garages with the £313 he stole. He was given a 12-month driving ban for the insurance offences.
