Industrial action by tanker drivers – which has been affecting fuel supplies to Jet retailers for the past two weeks – has been called off following a successful meeting between representatives from the Unite union and transport company Wincanton.

It brings to an end action at Kingsbury, Immingham and Stockton-on-Tees fuel terminals.

A joint statement put together by Wincanton and Unite said: "Following a positive meeting with both parties, we are pleased to be able to confirm that, on receipt of feed back received from the client this week, all threats in relation to the current industrial action are, with immediate effect, withdrawn.

"This is recognised as a very positive step, and will allow the parties to jointly explore all opportunities for future security of employment, whilst at the same time, provides the business with the assurances it needs in relation to continuity of supply for end users, which is acknowledged jointly as a paramount objective.

"To this end, a series of meetings have been convened between Wincanton and Unite representatives, over the coming weeks, with the joint aim of achieving long-term security of employment."
