Former managing director of Spar UK, Jerry Marwood, is returning to the symbol group as managing director of Spar wholesaler Blakemore Trade Partners.

Marwood, who was managing director of Spar UK until September this year, will succeed Dennis Evans, who retires in December. Marwood will take up the reins from January 2012.

Evans successfully oversaw the development of the Spar independent business, trading and distribution, and was actively involved in the smooth running of the company’s recent acquisition of Capper & Co.

He plans to spend his retirement helping to develop the successful Costa Coffee franchise that he and his wife both own in Scotland.

Peter Blakemore, chairman of Blakemore Trade Partners, said: “I would like to thank Dennis for his significant contribution to our Spar business. He leaves the business in a very strong position following the acquisition of Capper & Co Ltd last March. I wish him a long and happy retirement.

“Jerry brings with him a wealth of experience in Spar, and I am delighted that he will take over as our new managing director.”
