The Office of Fair Trading is considering Rontec Investment’s offer to divest the Total Crossways site in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, following its conclusion that the site raised competition concerns in that area.

The OFT has already concluded that Rontec’s proposed acquisition of 238 Total-branded sites would not give rise to competition concerns nationally. Of the 44 areas in which Rontec’s existing service stations overlapped with Total outlets, the OFT sited just Haverfordwest in Wales as a concern. Amelia Fletcher, OFT chief economist & decision maker in the case, said: "After a detailed investigation we concluded that the merger was largely pro-competitive on a national basis, leading to the expansion of a smaller firm in the retail supply of petrol."
