Independent oil distribution company Oil 4 Wales and breakdown rescue company Dragon Rescue have joined forces to develop a 24-hour fuel stop at Cardiff Docks.
The two companies, who jointly share the site on Rover Way, are investing £60,000 into the new fuelling station, which will be fully operational by September.
The first to be developed at the site, it is hoped that the fuel stop will attract long-haul drivers departing from Cardiff’s three operational docks with the opportunity to refuel as soon as they arrive on Welsh soil.
Oil 4 Wales managing director Colin Owen said: “This was a logical step for us given the nature of our business and the obvious need for a refuelling station in the docks area. It will benefit not only both our businesses, allowing our tanker drivers and Dragon’s rescue drivers, the chance to fill up before leaving the site but also the truck and lorry drivers who usually have to travel several miles before having the opportunity to fill up their tanks.”
Both companies have plans to further develop the site to offer long haul drivers a truck stop, with eating and shower facilities, as well as repair, servicing and testing services.
Steve Powell, managing director for Dragon Rescue, added: “This is something that we have been considering for a number of years now and we’re excited to see our plan come to fruition.
“Our ultimate goal is to develop a complete one stop shop for long haul drivers. As well as fuel we will be utilising our services to offer, among other things, vehicles safe loading passes, repairs, VOSA testing and MOTs.”
All the major fuel bunker agency cards will be accepted, including UK Fuels, Key Fuels and Diesel Direct. Local businesses will also be able to bunker with their home accounts, allowing them to avoid the handling charge incurred on fuelling cards.
