Tesco has confirmed that it has banned all hand car washing from its car parks nationwide, but not as a direct result of campaigning by the Car Wash Association.

In a statement to Forecourt Trader, a Tesco spokesman said: “We constantly review the services we offer our customers. As part of these regular reviews we have taken the decision to cease the trolley hand car washing service. This will affect all trolley hand car washing sites.”

David Charman, chairman of the CWA, said: “Following a conversation with Pater Catell, director of Petrol & Car-Wash at Tesco Supermarkets, the CWA understands that contrary to its statement made in the December edition of Forecourt Trader, Tesco’s decision to withdraw from trolley washing on its car parks was not influenced in any way by the CWA’s campaign to raise awareness and seek a fair competitive environment for car washing services in the UK. The CWA acknowledges the lead Tesco has taken to remove trolley washing from its sites.”
