Inhabitants of Aviemore in the Highlands of Scotland have started a Facebook campaign to get a Tesco forecourt in the town, in a bid to bring down the price of fuel there.

The area currently has three filling stations at Newtonmore, Grantown and Aviemore, all owned by Top 50 Indie MRH (GB).

Supporters of the campaign have described the prices at the three forecourts as "absolutely terrible" and, because there is no competition, they believe MRH is using its position to "charge what they like".

Tesco hopes to build a new store in the town but has said that a filling station is not part of its plans.

MRH managing director John Lynn, said: "We always try to be competitive with local competition, but remote rural areas tend to have somewhat higher pump prices owing to higher logistics costs."
