Tesco has joined Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons in a price war at the pumps. Last month all four supermarket giants

announced they were slashing fuel prices. Tesco cut petrol and diesel prices by 2ppl at all its 450 petrol stations in the UK, with Asda and Morrisons both lowering unleaded by 2ppl and diesel by 1ppl. Sainsbury’s announced it was lowering fuel prices ’by up to 2p’ per litre.

According to Asda, this put the price of unleaded at a maximum of 115.9ppl and diesel 118.9ppl. Morrisons said unleaded came down to 116.9ppl, and diesel to 119.5ppl.

A Tesco spokesman said: "We have recently seen an easing of the pressure on world oil prices and as always we want to pass these lower prices back to customers as quickly as possible."
