Pictured below is the new Shell Beaconsfield site on the M40 - which the oil company claims is the UK’s biggest service station. With 36 forecourt pumps and six dedicated high-speed HGV pumps totalling 152 nozzles, the site in Buckinghamshire can serve several hundred customers an hour. It also has

underground storage for 1.2m litres of fuel. Jonathan Caffrey, Shell UK network delivery manager, said: "Shell Beaconsfield is a significant addition to our retail network in the UK. As a flagship site it provides customers with high quality facilities in a great location."

The site has been built with "eco-friendly considerations", including the replanting of trees, water reclaim units and foul water waste management. It has a man-made lake, hotel complex and picnic area and includes a Starbucks, Marks & Spencer, KFC, and McDonalds.
