A man convicted of threatening an Essex filling station cashier with a kitchen knife during a robbery has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment at Chelmsford Crown Court.

The sentence followed earlier conviction of David Brockett by a jury, who heard he had been living in an apartment next door to the Pilgrims Hatch filling station near Brentwood. He was said to have loitered until there was just one female cashier and escaped with about £100 after threatening her with a knife.

Brockett was arrested after the garage owner recognised him on CCTV, thwarting a crude attempt at disguising his identity.
