Retailers have had a major headache on their hands since the warning announcement this month from the Foods Standards Agency about food products containing Sudan 1.

Many have complained that not enough information has been forthcoming from official sources – but there has been plenty of speculation in the media as each day brings news of further products that could be affected.

Meanwhile the Association of Convenience Stores has advised retailers to act quickly and seek guidance from their suppliers and manufacturers. ACS chief executive David Rae, said: “Remove all recalled products from sale as soon as you are aware of what these products are. Notify customers via pos material and a general notice available from the ACS website – www.thelocalshop.com.”
