The number of forecourt sites has dropped to 9,626, according to the latest figures published by Catalist.

Figures for the second quarter show that dealers have taken the brunt of the losses, with 80 sites going. The oil companies dropped 10 sites, while the hypermarkets gained two.

"It’s a fairly consistent pattern, with the market continuing to lose between 500 and 600 sites a year," said Catalist sales manager, Arthur Renshaw.
