A family owned forecourt business on Anglesey, north Wales, has fully reopened exactly a year after it was completely gutted in a devastating fire.
The site had to be rebuilt after the fire on June 3, last year, and initially opened four weeks later with a temporary shop.
The Texaco Service Station at Pentraeth, owned by Lewis Forecourts, now features a Subway and a 3,000sq ft Spar store.
Owner Jill Lewis, who took over the business 17 years ago with her husband, Paul, told the Daily Post: “When I heard of the fire, it was one of the most devastating calls I’d ever received. It’s impossible to prepare for something like that.
“We were told that it was due to some kind of electrical fault but to be honest, the morning after it was difficult to see the way forward as it was such a blow.
“But what I must say is that we would never have got to where we are now without the support of the local people, they have been absolutely fantastic.”
She said the Subway had been very busy since the reopening and she now has plans to build similar Subway takeaways at Lewis Forecourts’ other sites at Heron in Llangefni and on Caernarfon Road in Bangor.
She added: “The temporary shop did what it was meant to, but we’re happy to finally be in our new home.
“Ours is the only convenience shop in the village, so we feel a responsibility for the community we serve as well.”
