Spar distributor and retailer James Hall has won planning permission to redevelop a car showroom with a petrol station, convenience store, car park and ATM at a site in North Yorkshire.
Permission to redevelop Greaves Garage, on Garbutts Lane in Hutton Rudby, near Stokesley, was granted by Hambleton District Council.
Hutton Rudby Parish Council were in favour of the creation of the food store, but objected to the development of the petrol station, fearing light pollution and disturbance to nearby residents. They also felt the original proposed opening hours of 6am until 11pm were too long.
The council’s planning department received 17 submissions of support for the plans from local residents and 26 objections.
The objections centred mostly around concerns about noise and light pollution late at night, as well as the potential for increased traffic on the village’s roads.
There were also concerns about the pollution from cars stopping and starting and disruption from delivery vans and people using the ATM cash machine at anti-social hours.
Hambleton District Council approved the plans, but restricted the opening times of the shop to between 7am and 10pm.
