Phillips 66 presented the award for Young Achiever at the Disabled Motoring UK Awards last month at the Silverstone Wing, organised by the charity Disabled Motoring UK (DMUK).

The winner of the award was 16 year old Alex Tait from Sheffield. Alex is a young driver with Myotonic Dystrophy, who has a passion for motorsport. His enthusiasm for driving and racing meant that earlier this year he was given the role of the ambassador for Get Going Live, an event for young disabled people to help them get into driving.

Alex was presented his award by Paul Wright, finance manager at Phillips 66. Paul commented: “The Young Achiever Award aims to recognise a disabled person under the age of 25 who does not let their disability stop them achieving and overcomes obstacles. Alex certainly hasn’t let anything get in his way of following his passion for driving and motorsport. We were delighted to sponsor this award category and see Alex collect his award on the night.”

Phillips 66 is a longstanding associate member of Disabled Motoring UK (DMUK), a charity that campaigns for disabled drivers, passengers and Blue Badge holders. The charity’s bi-annual awards ceremony saw more than 160 guests gather together to celebrate the efforts and commitment of individuals, organisations and businesses in addressing or removing the challenges that disabled motorists face on a daily basis.

Also playing a role at the awards ceremony was racing driver Nicolas Hamilton, Jet’s ambassador for 2015. Nicolas lives with the neurological condition Cerebral Palsy and earlier this year was the first disabled competitor to participate in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). He is a vocal campaigner for disability in motoring.
