STA's Spirited move

The Scandinavian Tobacco Group UK (STG) now has the distribution rights for Natural American Spirit (NAS). The company says NAS gives consumers a range of premium products that are completely additive-free. The NAS rolling tobacco range comprises three SKUs: 10 x 12.5g (recommended retail price £3.83 per pack); five x 25g (£7.37 per pack); and five x 35g (£9.49 per pack). In cigarettes, there are two SKUs: yellow and blue; both in packs of 20, rrp £6.95.

Imperial Tobacco beats the Drum for additive-free

Imperial Tobacco has launched a new additive-free variant of Drum tobacco which is expected to have a positive impact on the Drum brand as a whole. It will be available to all UK retailers from March 13. Plain and price-marked 12.5g packs will be available at £3.60 rrp and £3.65 pmp.

Britvic Soft Drinks has launched its latest limited- edition flavour of J2O papaya punch, which won last year's Mix a Flavour on-pack promotion. Last March, J2O asked consumers to visit and vote for a new flavour combination using the base flavour of peach or pear with one of four exotic flavours papaya, dragon fruit, star fruit or guava. Papaya punch received more than 40,000 votes.

Increasing tax on tobacco would boost illicit trade, says JTI

Latest estimates from Japan Tobacco International (JTI) have revealed that, on average, over a quarter (27%) of tobacco smoked across the country is non-UK duty paid (NUKDP), leading to revenue loss to the Treasury of billions of pounds. Although this latest data represents a continuation of a declining trend in NUKDP, JTI says tax increases in the Budget could undermine the progress that has been made.
