While drive-offs are the main problem, the number of customers claiming to have 'No means to pay' once they've refuelled has risen considerably. Our Payment Watch scheme was designed to help retailers recover money from these motorists. Some, however, never pay and a number of repeat offenders have been identified.

Heineken is running an on-pack promotion to help retailers drive their beer sales through the Olympic period. The activity gives consumers the chance to win exclusive VIP tickets to the British Olympic Association's (BOA's) official Team GB Olympics and Paralympics celebration in September. There are runners-up prizes including 40" TVs. The promotion is running on four- and 12-bottle packs of Heineken 330ml while stock lasts, until the closing date on August 20. Heineken's head of off-trade customer marketing Doug Walker said: "Once-in-a-lifetime prizes such as the BOA celebration party tickets will be the hottest party invitations in town this summer, which will help drive shopper interest and purchase and help retailers to increase beer profits."

Imperial's new Profile

Imperial Tobacco's Richmond range has been extended with the launch of Profile compact cigarettes. Compact cigarettes are king size in length but smaller in diameter. The new Profile product therefore has a lower recommended retail price than standard Richmond at £6.50 for 20. Price-marked packs with a £6.50 flash will be available while stocks last.
