Coke gets all musical

Coca-Cola is giving consumers the chance to win tickets to live music events every hour of this month. The 'Win gig tickets every hour at' activity is appearing on 2ltr, 330ml, 500ml and 330ml multipacks (sixes and eights) of Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Coke Zero. When they enter, consumers will be asked to select their chosen gig.

Chuck on Facebook

Chupa Chups' character Chuck is getting his first ever Facebook campaign in the UK. He is described as a "laid back teenager who, like Chupa Chups confectionery, helps to make life less serious". Product manager for Chupa Chups, David Leal, explained: "This is a first for Perfetti Van Melle as we have never used social media for a Chupa Chups campaign in the UK and are looking forward to seeing the positive impact of this launch on sale here." The Chuck character also appears on his own website: Although lollies are Chupa Chups' flagship lines, the brand now also offers Big Babol bubblegum and Cotton Candy bubblegum, both in strawberry and tutti frutti flavours.

Randoms goes large

Following the huge success of Randoms in impulse bags, the sweets will shortly be available in a 195g share bag. The new bag, which has a recommended retail price of £1.45, will include 10 new shapes including foamy jigsaw pieces, padlocks and diggers. It will be available from August 23.

Tea-break treats

United Biscuits has launched the McVitie's VIP Club which rewards consumers by giving away tea-break treats. Digestives, jaffa cakes and Hobnobs are all involved.

Blueberry vodka

Diageo is adding a blueberry variant to its Smirnoff flavoured vodka range. The roll-out follows a trial in Bristol. The launch is backed by a £6m outdoor and sampling campaign.

Crunch campaign

Nestlé is launching its biggest Polo campaign for 10 years. The 'Are you a sucker or a cruncher?' activity, which will include outdoor advertising, begins on August 16.

Londis launches cereals

Londis is continuing to develop its own brand range with the launch of two new breakfast cereals: corn flakes and wheat biscuits. Both offer retailers profit margins of up to 40%.

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has extended its Ribena range with the launch of a raspberry variant available in a 500ml bottle and 288ml carton.

Shane Thakrar likes to keep it in the family

My typical day starts with me heading straight for my Blackberry, which is certainly both the best and worst thing in my life! The office is less than 10 minutes drive from home, which is incredibly convenient on what seem to be the rare occasions that I am there!
