Rontec aims to raise £1m for charity

Rontec’s Shop’ N Drive chain is aiming to raise up to £1m for the national sight loss charity RNIB after it chose it as its first charity of the Year.

The money will be raised by customers, in a scheme which allows them to ‘top up’ their credit or debit card transaction.

The Top 50 Indies’ 160 Shop’ N Drive stores give motorists the option to make a 25p donation when paying for their fuel and other items.

So far more than £100,000 has been raised as part of the ‘Round it Up’ appeal which is being delivered by ‘digital charity box’ Pennies.

It is the first time that the Pennies scheme has been run at a petrol station, and was chosen by Rontec, because of its simplicity and innovation.

Wanda Hamilton, RNIB’s group director of fundraising, said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen by Shop’ N Drive as their Charity of the Year and would like to thank them and their customers for their support. The Pennies scheme proves that every penny really does count and I’m delighted that this fantastic partnership will help us deliver our work supporting the two million people in the UK who have sight loss.”

Giles Taylor, operations director at Rontec, said: “We are proud to be the first UK forecourt retailer to give customers the chance to make a small, but collectively significant, donation to charity.

“The scheme is proving that a little really does go a long way to raising large sums of money for a very worthy cause. We hope we can reach our £1m target for RNIB to benefit its work with those who are blind or partially sighted.”

The scheme has been made possible in Shop’ N Drive stores by technology provided by HTEC and Tokheim, the first forecourt systems suppliers to join the Pennies movement.
