Applegreen is due to add a further 10 sites to its estate during 2014, according to managing director Michael O’Loughlin.

Writing in the annual report of its parent company, Petrogas Global, O’Loughlin said the company had also commenced a site development programme that would comprise a number of innovations associated with the Applegreen brand, including a further nine sites branded Applegreen with a combined Subway offer.

Staff numbers in the UK have now increased to 450 and to support the company’s growth it has added to its management team with the appointment of Adrian Grimes as head of operations UK and Hilary Barrett as head of developments UK.

During 2013 fuel volumes at Petrogas UK rose 47% compared with 2012, with 2% like-for-like growth, and like-for-like non-fuel sales grew by 11.6%.

Acquisitions during the year enabled the company to move into Wales for the first time, at Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend and the estate now stretches from Manchester in the north to Southampton and from Norwich in the east to St Austell in Cornwall.
