ATM stolen from filling station

08 May, 2013

Thieves have stolen a cash machine from a petrol station forecourt in Huddersfield.

Huddersfield CID are appealing for witnesses after the ATM was taken from the Jet garage on Woodhead Road in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police said that at 1.30am a dark coloured 4x4 vehicle drove on to the forecourt of the garage.

Two or three men got out of the vehicle and removed the cash machine from its fixture before loading it onto the 4x4 and driving off.

Bollards were in place to prevent a ram raid but the thieves appear to have unbolted the machine from its fixings.

Vikram Singh, who works at the filling station, said the machine was a Link ATM and was not the property of the garage.

He said: “The locals heard all the banging and they called the police.”

He added: “One of Link’s engineers turned up in the morning and he said, ‘Where’s the machine?’.”

Police said the men were all slim and around 5ft 8ins tall, and were wearing face coverings and dark clothing.

Police said witnesses should contact Huddersfield CID via 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
