Three oil companies make 2012 list of Consumer Superbrands

28 February, 2012

BP, Shell and Texaco have been named a Consumer Superbrand in the 2012 independent survey of over 2,000 British consumers undertaken by The Centre for Brand Analysis. The Superbrands ranking, now in its 13th year, claims to be an influential barometer of brand strength in the UK.

An independent selection process was used to ensure that all the brands represented the selection criteria of: quality for consumers; reliablility and trustworthiness; and having distinction well known in its sector, but suitably differentiated from its competitors. There were only three oil companies that consumers voted to include in the list BP was no 35, Shell 59 and Texaco 423.

Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the Superbrands Expert Council said: A Superbrand is one which constantly delivers excellence and quality, and this years consumer poll reflects this.

Mandy Hodson, brand manager for Valero Energy Ltd, which markets fuel in the UK under the Texaco brand, said: Were proud to have received Superbrand status for the Texaco brand the service stations worked hard to ensure the rigorous criteria was met. Its clear recognition from consumers that we are a quality brand that they trust as a preferred supplier of fuel.
